Here are some helpful tips for successful verification:
- Double-check your personal information (i.e. Name, Date of Birth and Residential Address) for incorrect spelling or typos before moving to the next step.
- When choosing your occupation Sector, choose the one that most closely matches your field. Please include your actual job title in the occupation section.
- Ensure that you are using a valid and current Canadian ID. Please see What types of Canadian-Issued Identification does Newton accept? for a full list of government-issued IDs we accept. We cannot accept expired IDs as per FINTRAC requirements.
Follow these tips when taking a photo of your Canadian government-issued ID:
- Avoid dark backgrounds and strong background light (natural lighting works best)
- Capture the full ID in the photo frame
- All four corners of your ID need to be visible in the photo
- All information on the ID must be clear & legible - no details are blurred or covered. If your ID is damaged, we cannot accept it as a valid ID.
- Take the photo as directly above your ID as possible. Be sure that your shadow does not cover your ID.
- Try using a different device to take the photos to potentially improve the image quality
- Avoid having dark shadows in the picture
Once you have successfully uploaded your ID, you will be prompted to take a selfie. Please follow these tips:
- Avoid dark backgrounds and strong background light (natural lighting works best)
- Capture your full face in the photo frame
- Try using a different device to take the photos to potentially improve the image quality
- Avoid having dark shadows in the picture
- Ensure that there are no other people in the photo.
Note: Scanned photos of your government ID and/or photos of yourself will not be accepted.
