Here are some helpful tips for successful verification:

1. Double-check your personal information (i.e. Name, Date of Birth and Residential Address) for incorrect spelling or typos before moving to the next step. 
2. When choosing your occupation Sector, choose the one that most closely matches your field. Please include your actual job title in the occupation section. 
3. Ensure that you are using a valid and current Canadian ID. Please see What types of Canadian-Issued Identification does Newton accept? for a full list of government-issued IDs we accept. We cannot accept expired IDs as per FINTRAC requirements.

Follow these tips when taking a photo of your Canadian government-issued ID:

1. Avoid dark backgrounds and strong background light (natural lighting works best)
2. Capture the full ID in the photo frame
   
   • All four corners of your ID need to be visible in the photo
   • All information on the ID must be clear & legible - no details are blurred or covered. If your ID is damaged, we cannot accept it as a valid ID. 
3. Take the photo as directly above your ID as possible. Be sure that your shadow does not cover your ID.
4. Try using a different device to take the photos to potentially improve the image quality
5. Avoid having dark shadows in the picture

Once you have successfully uploaded your ID, you will be prompted to take a selfie. Please follow these tips:

1. Avoid dark backgrounds and strong background light (natural lighting works best)
2. Capture your full face in the photo frame
3. Try using a different device to take the photos to potentially improve the image quality
4. Avoid having dark shadows in the picture
5. Ensure that there are no other people in the photo. 

Note: Scanned photos of your government ID and/or photos of yourself will not be accepted.
