MakerDAO is rebranding to Sky Protocol and introducing SKY as the protocol's new governance token. While swapping from Maker (MKR) to Sky (SKY) is optional across the broader ecosystem, Newton will fully transition to SKY and no longer support MKR [as the protocol will impose a penalty for conversions after September 18, 2025]. To simplify this, we’ll automatically migrate all MKR holdings on our platform to SKY. Below are the key dates for when MKR support ends on Newton's platform, when SKY becomes available, and how the conversion will work on Newton.

With the transition, SKY now carries the governance functions and privileges that MKR once controlled. By holding SKY, users also gain access to staking rewards through Sky.money, creating new ways to participate in protocol growth.

Newton does not currently support staking for this asset.  Despite losing its governance role in the Sky Protocol, MKR is expected to continue trading on exchanges, as it remains a widely recognized token.

Key Details:

• September 7, 2025: MKR trading disabled
• September 9, 2025: MKR deposits & withdrawals disabled
• After September 9, 2025 (and before September 18, 2025): All MKR converted to SKY at 1 MKR = 24,000 SKY

SKY support on Newton will roll out in stages:

• September 9, 2025: SKY deposits open
• September 11, 2025: SKY withdrawals enabled
• September 18, 2025: Full support begins with SKY trading going live

After September 18, SKY will be fully available for trading, deposits, and withdrawals on Newton via the Ethereum network.

If you wish to retain your MKR token(s), please withdraw them from Newton before September 9, 2025. After this date, all MKR on Newton will convert to SKY [ahead of the protocol's penalty on swapping MKR to SKY]. However, starting September 11, 2025, you can withdraw SKY and swap it back to MKR on a platform that supports it, if you wish to do so.
